City Safe

City Safe was created in autumn 2019 by the Retail BID as a response to members increasing concerns about business crime and the impact of anti-social behaviour on the safety of staff and visitors.

City Safe has united local businesses with a shared goal to prevent and reduce criminality and anti-social behaviour. Working in partnership with West Midlands Police, British Transport Police, Birmingham City Council, fellow BID’s and other bodies across the city to actively reduce crime.

The City Safe subscription scheme provides a private digital radio network, giving members secure, instant verbal communication and the ability to send group – wide text messages. Our radios are held by, West Midlands Police, British Transport Police, the Police Camera Control room and the Retail Bid Patrol Officers and the radio network is constantly monitored.

Over 200 City Safe radios are now being used within the city centre retail and leisure area, Southside and Colmore Business Districts.

Members pay just £10 per week to be a part of this secure network, which is being led by Retail BID in partnership with West Midlands Police, British Transport Police and retail centre security staff.

Members have access to SentrySIS™ (Sentry Secure Intelligence System) used as City Safe’s fully GDPR compliant and secure data sharing platform.  Since inception the system has reported and resolved over 2,600 incidents and recovered and returned goods in excess of £300,000 to businesses. Individuals involved in these criminal activities have either been banned from our businesses, or were engaged in police involvement and subsequent sentencing.

The system now has more than 1700 live profiles of persons that have been apprehended and dealt with by those directly involved with City Safe.
