Retail BID cleans city centre streets in time for Frankfurt Christmas Market

Retail BID Birmingham is giving the city centre’s busiest streets a scrub-up for Christmas shoppers.

New Street and Corporation Street are being steam-cleaned and chewing gum removed in time for the arrival of the Frankfurt Christmas Market and thousands of extra seasonal visitors.

The recently-repaved area outside the Apple Store had gum and grime removed as part of the BID’s ongoing street cleaning programme, carried out by Ramora Ltd, a specialist cleaning company.

The BID also paid for the temporary security barriers surrounding the Frankfurt Christmas Market to be repainted to make the area more attractive for the Christmas period.

No chemicals have been used in the cleaning process, just steam – so there are no environmental implications when removing chewing gum from streets, and the works are being carried out during evenings to avoid disruption to businesses.
