Conservative Party Conference and planned protests information

The Conservative Party will be holding their party conference in Birmingham at the ICC from Sunday 30 September – Wednesday 3 October.

As a result, there will be increased security presence in the city and around the ICC. There will be additional traffic restrictions in the Broad Street area and a secure area around the ICC with no pedestrian access will be in place. Pedestrian thoroughfares will be maintained.

Retail BID have been informed that a number of planned peaceful protests before and during all the days of the Conservative Party conference. The majority will be small static protests in and around the ICC.

Over the weekend of Saturday 29 September to Sunday 30 September, there are two larger marches planned in the city centre.

– Trades Union Congress march – Sat 29th September. Build from c.0700, assembly of protestors 1100, march c.1230, finish c.1400

– Bin Brexit march – Sun 30th September. Build 0800, assembly of protestors 1100, march c.1200, finish c.1400

Both of these marches are expecting approximately 3,000-5,000 participants.  Both will rally in Victoria Square, and take the route Victoria Square > New St > High St > Union St > back to New St and Victoria Square.

As a result of these marches, trams will be terminated at Bull Street while the marches are taking place.

West Midlands Police will have a plan in place to monitor and facilitate the protests.
