Black Friday and Cyber Monday advice for businesses
Posted on: 16/10/18
As we approach Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the run-up to Christmas, It has never been more important for businesses to prepare for the additional pressures which occur during this busy trading period.
It is well proven that planning and partnership working in particular, has a significant impact in improving safety and on preventing some of the issues experienced in previous years. It is vital that this good work continues to ensure that potential theft, violence and disorder is avoided and our retailers and business community can maximise the benefits they require to protect their well being and profitability at this key time in the business calendar.
To that end, now is the time to make sure that communication and engagement with your own staff, regarding changes to opening times, staffing levels, increased footfall and anticipated queues is in hand. Sharing this information with nearby businesses, security teams, local crime reduction partnerships and the police will ensure we fulfill our collective obligation to not expose the public, our staff, security personnel or the police to avoidable risk. It is encouraging that many businesses have as last year, decided to spread the Black Friday sales period across the week rather than relying on just one day.
Please ensure that your marketing and security teams communicate with each other, and that you have sufficient staff on duty during this busy period. It is essential that we support and encourage a close working relationship between retailers, the business community, our security teams and the police. Retail Birmingham will continue to support and assist communication, partnership and safety with the added benefit of the new CITY SAFE Birmingham Digital Radio network which gives direct communication with West Midlands Police, the Police Camera control room, the Retail BID Team, our shopping centres and all business members on the network. This new network resource will be harnessed fully during this busy festive period, securely and instantly linking our partners.
