BID to work with House of Fraser after closure news

Retail BID has offered to work with local managers at House of Fraser following the news the group will close its Birmingham store next year.
The famous Corporation Street store, formerly Rackham’s, is one of 31 stores (of the group’s 59) earmarked for closure next year, with hundreds of jobs at risk.
The store closures will be undertaken through a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA), which is being drawn up with the help of accountancy firm KPMG.
Richard Norgrove, Chair, Retail BID Birmingham, said: “Retail BID is naturally disappointed to be losing one of the city’s major department stores and we will be working with the local management team at House of Fraser to see how we can help the affected staff into new roles with other retailers in the city centre.
“Going forward, we will be discussing with the owners and Birmingham City Council the future plans for the building after the store’s planned closure in early 2019, particularly given the recent investment in the new Midland Metro along Corporation Street.”
